Acupuncture is a 5000 year old holistic medical modality originating from China. It includes the use of small, filiform needles (not hollow hypodermic needles used for medical procedures) on certain areas of the body, to activate “qi” or energy, to alleviate symptoms. It also works at uncovering root causes. Acupuncture is a dynamic and integrated health care system that activates the bodies self healing ability, and strengthens and supports the body to prevent future illness and disease.

Here at Optimal Health Matters, acupuncture is used to treat multiple conditions including injury, chronic pain, recovery from surgery, and internal disorders including:

  • Addiction

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Hormone disfunction (both male and female)

  • Digestive problems

  • Insomnia

  • common colds

  • emotional problems including depression and anxiety

Along side with acupuncture, we use other techniques including cupping, gua-sha, elctro-acupuncture, auriculotherapy, and trigger point therapy. Our chiropractic office provides personalized acupuncture therapy that is complimentary to chiropractic care, and each plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury.

Acupuncture is not magic, and you do not have to believe it in to work. Inserting needles into muscles and connective tissue frees up the normal flow of blood, energy, and nutrients by releasing myofascial and musculoskeletal constrictions. The insertion of needles also creates micro-trauma in your tissue, which induces a healing response in your body and the release of pain-relieving endorphins into your bloodstream. Acupuncture works at not only relieving pain, but also treating underlying conditions, so that the pain does not return, and you are stronger than ever.

Acupuncture works by receiving multiples sessions over a certain length of time depending on the conditions being treated. Usually acute conditions do not take as long to treat (6 weeks), and chronic conditions take the longest (10-12 weeks).
